Disconnection is Not a Failure, It’s a Pattern
Disconnection is not a flaw. It is not a failure. It is a pattern. A very human one.
When we do not feel safe to feel what we feel, we learn to leave our body. We live in our head, or in our to-do list. We keep going. We keep pleasing. We keep pushing. It feels safer than the tenderness that lives underneath.
And it is not just you. This is something I hear from nearly every woman I work with.
Common Struggles in Reconnecting with Your Body
“I feel like I am not in my body.”
“I do not know what I am feeling.”
“I always go into fixing mode.”
“I am tired of always performing.”
These words are deeply familiar to me. I’ve said them too. These patterns are so common they almost become invisible. We forget that they are not who we are—they are what we learned to survive.
The Wisdom in Disconnection
Disconnection often kept us safe. It allowed us to function in environments where our inner world was not welcomed or supported. And that matters. There was wisdom in that. The brilliance in how we coped.
The First Step: Noticing with Kindness
The first step in reconnecting is not to stop doing all those things. The first step is to notice—with kindness.
To say to ourselves, gently: “Of course. That makes sense. That is what I learned. That is how I coped.”
From there, we can ask a different question. Not “How do I stop doing this?” but:
“What if I slowed down and started noticing what my body is holding?”
That question opens a new doorway. It shifts us out of problem-solving mode and into radical curiosity—a kind of deep listening that invites presence, connection, and care. From there, we may begin to soften… and gently return home to our body.
A Soft Invitation to Reconnect
Maybe today, you can ask yourself, “What do I notice in my body when I slow down?” No pressure to know the answer. Just let the question land. This is already a practice of staying with your body.
